Eubucco bourcierii

The Red-Headed Barbet is a small colorful bird that measures 16.5 cm (6.5 in). Inhabits in humid and wet forests, forest borders, and second woodlands ranging from 1200 to 2400 m above sea level. The male has a large bright intense red color in the head and neck. Black area around bill and ocular region and a narrow bluish nuchal collar. Upperparts are green. Red throat and upper breast fades to dull golden yellow on ventral part. It also shows olive streaks on its flanks. The bill is stout sharp pointed yellow-green structure with a dark underpart. Due to sexual dimorphism the female lacks the bright red coloration, but it is dull green above; black in the front crown and around the eyes. The remaining of the crown is greenish yellow. A clear blue spot above the eye and side of head is bordered behind by yellow feathers. Its throat is greenish yellow; chest has an orange-yellow color; and, underparts are streaked olive and yellow. Wings olive with a bluish white color. Found in pairs and feedssa on insects and fruits. Nests from holes in decaying trees where 2 to 5 eggs are Incubated for 15 days.

El Torito Cabecirrojo es un ave muy colorida que mide 16.5 cm de longitud. Habita en las laderas de bosques húmedos a alturas entre los 1200 y. 2400 msnm. El macho es fácil de reconocer por su intenso colorido rojo vivo en su cabeza y cuello rodeado por una estrecha banda blanca. Pico amarillo-verdosos fuerte, puntiagudo y negruzco en la base inferior. Negro en la parte frontal de la corona y alrededor de los ojos. Su dorso es verde con garganta roja. El plumaje rojo del pecho se torna amarillo al llegar al vientre. Rayas verdes en sus flancos. Dimorfismo sexual muy marcado ya que la hembra luce un color diferente y sin plumas rojas. En la zona auricular presenta un color azul cielo rodeado de negro y dorado en su parte posterior, garganta amarillo verdoso y pecho amarillo ocre. Las alas son de color oliva a opaco que se separan de la cabeza del cuello con una barra vertical blanco azulada. Se encuentran en parejas o en grupos hasta de 8 en árboles frutales. Anidan en huecos abandonados de nidos de carpinteros. Se alimentan de frutas e insectos. Postura es de 2 a 5 huevos que la hembra incuba por 15 días.
