Sayornis nigricans

The Black Phoebe (Sayornis nigricans) is a small, plump bird with a large head, of medium to long size, and with a squared tail. Black Phoebes weight between 15-22 g. It has a straight and thin beak. The black phoebe is mostly sooty gray on the upperparts and chest, with a darker black head. It has dark eyes and its beaks and feet are black. Its belly is white, and the wing feathers are bordered with a pale gray coloration. This bird lives along streams, lakes, rivers, near the coasts and water sources for cattle. It chases and traps insects at fly such as bees, wasps, flies and termites. 

El Atrapamoscas Guardapuentes pesa alrededor de 18 g. Su cabeza, pecho, partes superiores y alas son color negro hollín, mientras que su abdomen es blanco, al igual que los márgenes de las cobertoras alares. Presenta iris café oscuro y pico y patas negras. Se le observa en áreas semiabiertas cerca a fuentes de agua principalmente en piedemontes y montañas. No se le encuentra en tierras bajas, donde los ríos no tienen una pendiente fuerte. Se alimenta de macroinvertebrados acuáticos y artrópodos que viven en la superficie del agua y en la vegetación cercana, incluyendo, abejas, moscas y termitas.
