Myiodynastes maculatus

The Streaked Flycatcher (Myiodynastes maculatus) length ranges from 20 to 23 cm and it weighs about 42 g. Sexes are similar. It is found at the edges of forests and cocoa plantations. It has a streaking pattern across most of its back and pale-yellow underparts. Its crown and tail show a cinnamon color. Iris is dark brown. Indistinct dull white to yellowish white supercilium. Throat narrowly streaked, streaking looks heavier on breast and flanks. Bill is strong and black, with a pinkish beige base to the mandible. It feeds on flying insects that they capture by sallying or gleaning from perch. It also consumes lizards and small fruit such as berries. The nest is generally built by the female and can be found in tree hollows or in bromeliads. It has the shape of a cup and is made with plant material. The clutch consists of 2 to 3 cream-colored eggs with red-brown spots. Both parents incubate the eggs for 16-17 days. They remain in the nest up to 21 days and then fledge. Sometimes the nest of the Streaked flycatcher is parasited by the Molothrus bonariensis
