A medium-sized hummingbird with iridescent copper plumage below, and green-copper spotting on top, and with a small pink throat patch that is less evident in the female. It has a long, slightly curve bill. It has a green-ochre wide and forked tail. Solitary only gets involved only at copulation. Female builds a cup-shaped nest using plant fibers and sticky materials such as spider webbing and animal hair. It lays 2 eggs. The young are born blind, immobile and without any down. Feeds on nectar. A nesting female can capture up to 2000 insects a day. Inhabits in Andean humid forests.
Este colibrí de tamaño mediano tiene pico largo ligeramente curvo. El macho presenta un plumaje verde cobrizo por encima y acanelado por debajo que incluye garganta y flancos pectorales. Tiene una mancha pequeña rosada en la parte baja y central de la garganta. La cola es verde cobriza, ancha y un poco ahorquillada. La hembra es parecida al macho pero ésta no posee parche en la garganta. Construye nidos de forma de taza. Pone 2 huevos. Hembra puede capturar hasta 2000 insectos al dia para su cria. Habita en bosques húmedos nublados entre 1800 - 2600 m.
