The Golden Tanager is endemic to South America. It has a brilliant golden yellow color. It is 13 cm (5.12 ion). The details of the coloration vary geographically, and several subspecies are recognized. The coloration of the throat and underparts ranges from bronze to golden yellow. It forages in the canopy area of montane humid forests. It eats fruit and a variety of insects. In artificial feeders one can see them eating papayas, ripe green banana, bananas and others. It travels with other flocks made of several other individuals of different species. Sometimes it is solitary or in pairs. It is found in humid montane forests and forest borders. This tangara is exclusively a forest dwelling bird.
Esta tángara es endémica de Sudamérica. Es de color amarillo-dorado intenso y brillante. Este color puede variar según la region geografica ya que hay varias subespecies que varian en tono y matiz. El área alrededor del pico es negra y posee una excesiva mancha rectangular de este color en los auriculares. De garganta y partes inferiores de color amarillo intenso. Tiene alas y cola negra. Mide 13 cm (5.1”). Se la puede encontrar solitaria o en parejas o con varios individuos. Visita comederos artificiales para alimentarse de fruta tales como papaya, plátano maduro y banana. Es frugívoro e insectívoro.
