Saltator striatipectus

This thraupid bird has a length of 18 cm (7.1 in) and presents plain olive- green upperparts and olive streaked underparts. The level of the dark streaking is not uniform on its chest and throat. Brown iris. Crown is grayish-green. It has a large thick dark black bill but is not included within the grosbeak cardinal group. Below they are off-white with their distinctive streaks, absent from the throat but dense on the breast, belly and flanks. The face also a short whitish supercilium. No dimorphism both sexes are similar. It has black legs and feet. It is found in the lowlands up to around 2000 m, mostly in scrubby forest edges. The weight ranges from 34 to 44 g.

Esta especie mide cerca de 20 cm y pesa de 34 a 44 g. Se encuentra en tierras bajas hasta los 2000 m de altura. Su cabeza presenta ojos de iris café, pico grueso y negruzco y patas negras. Tienen una estrecha banda superciliar blanca de tono sutil café. Su coronilla es verde grisáceo. La parte superior, espalda, rabadilla y las cobertoras supracaudales son de color verde-grisáceo. Las timoneras negruzcas con márgenes externas color verde oliva. El área loreal y auricular gris parduzco y la línea malar oscura. De garganta y pecho blancuzco. El pecho presenta estrías oscuras. Vientre blanco ante con estrías difusas a los lados. Piernas y patas negras. Ambos sexos similares sin dimorfismo. Su peso fluctua entre los 34 y 44 g.
