Burhinus bistriatus

This bird occurs in dry pasture and agricultural land in the north of the country. It has long legs and neck and a thick-knee that allows rapid identification. Yellow eyes and short and robust bill. Head and chest are dark brown with stripes. Largely nocturnal, it remains in a shady place and drop their upper eyelids in bright mid-day sun. Noisy when disturbed. Feeds on small insects, earthworms, mollusks, lizards and small rodents. It lives alone or in pairs and is active at night. It lays on the ground to avoid detection.

Ave crepuscular y nocturna que se encuentra en zonas secas y cutivos en el norte del pais. Tienen cuello, nuca, rodillas gruesas y patas largas que las hacen fácil de identificar. Posee ojos amarillos y un pico grueso y fuerte. Sus partes superiores cabeza y pecho son café oscuros con rayas. Permanece quieta en un solo lugar con los ojos cerrados durante el día. Hace mucho ruido cuando se le molesta. Se alimenta de presas pequeñas como insectos, lombrices, moluscos, lagartos y roedores pequeños. Vive solitaria o en pareja o en grupo y es muy activa en la noche. Se hecha en el suelo para evitar ser vista.
