The Toucan Barbet is found in the humid forests. Closely related to the toucans. Inhabits in the slopes of mountains at altitudes of 1400 to 2400 m uses upper canopy. In pairs or small groups perched silently and so hard to find unless active or singing. Territorial. Frugivorous, insectivorous and also eat small reptiles, tree sap, and flower petals. Prefer trees of the family Lauraceae. Logging, illegal trapping, deforestation, mining and cattle grazing are endangering the existence of this species. Medium sized-bird with a striking plumage. Wings and tail are grey. Strong and robust bill for its size. Difficult to differentiate between male and female. Get together as a mob to defend their nests from other birds. Nests in old trees. Both male and female incubate the eggs and unusually together with other helper birds.

EL Compás se encuentran en bosques húmedos. Cercanos a los tucanes. Viven en las laderas de montañas situadas entre los 1400 a los 2400 m y frecuentan la parta alta de los árboles. En pares o grupos pequeños. Perchan silenciosamente y por lo tanto difíciles de encontrar a no ser que vuelen o canten. Territoriales. Consumen frutas, insectos, reptiles pequeños, savia, y pétalos. Prefieren árboles de la familia Lauraceae. Deforestación, cacería comercial, minería y la introducción de fincas ganaderas han hecho que se encuentren en peligro de extinción. De alas y colas grises. Pico robusto. Hembra y macho son similares. Se unen para defender sus nidos. Nidan en árboles viejos. Macho, hembra y a veces pájaros de otras especies les ayudan a incubar y a levanter sus crias.
