SWIFTS
VENCEJOS

ORDER: APODIFORMES

FAMILY: APODIDAE

Very mobile. Extremely difficult to determine sexes apart even if bird is in hand. Move large distances to avoid rain. They are the closest birds to hummingbirds because they share wing structure characteristics. Flat-headed and long slightly forked tail, almost no legs and short feet. Swifts are among the fastest and more acrobatic birds in the world. They catch airborned insects on the wing in zooming, zigzagging, and dashing pursuits. It was thought that they do not have feet and live their entire life in the air. Can live from 5 to 16 years.
