PEPPERSHRIKES, VIREO, GREENLETS
VERDERONES

Order: PASSERIFORMES

FAMILY: VIREONIDAE

Inhabit altitudes ranging from 200 to 3400 m. Found also in parks, forest edges, and foothills. Many in mixed flocks. A number of species have a mild face pattern with a whitish stripe over the eye. They stay high in deciduous treetops, where they move methodically among the leaves hunting for caterpillars and other insects. The best way to know if a bird is a vireo, however, is to gauge how often it sings; the males can emit up to 20,000 tunes in a single day. Can live from 5 - 13 years
