Barn Owl is pale with dark eyes in a heart-shaped rounded face. Immobile small eyes. Can be found by searching the ground for regurgitated pellets of fur and bone below a nest or place of rest. Darkest birds are females and the palest are males. Live in farm buildings, old sheds, cliffs, and trees of rural fields. Secretive, solitary and nocturnal. Hunt at night for small rodents and rest during the day. Generally, not found in mountainous or heavily forested areas. Can live up to 15 years.

La lechuza común es un ave pálida con ojos pequeños y oscuros, tiene cara en forma de corazón. Sus ojos permanecen inmóviles. Para localizarlas se buscan bollitos que han sido digeridos, expulsados y depositados en el suelo directamente debajo de sus nidos. Las hembras son mas pálidas que los machos. Viven en el campo en lugares abandonados o viejos. También en árboles y en zonas rocosas. Viven escondidas, solitarios y cazan roedores durante la noche. No se encuentran en zonas de montaña ni en bosques densos. Pueden vivir hasta 15 años.
