The Yellow Oriole measures from 20 to 21 cm (8 in) long and weighs 38 g (1.3 oz) with mainly yellow plumage. This is the only icterid in its range with the combination of an all yellow back and white wing bars. Inhabitants of open woodland, scrub and even gardens. Prefers dry regions than humid ones. Can be found in altitudes reaching the 3000 m (9000 ft). The adult male has a black eye mask and a black throat. Its tail and wings are black. The wing shows a thin white bar and white edges. The female is similar but duller in color. The juvenile bird with a yellow tone, wings with white bar, and does not show any black color on the face. Its nest is a 40 cm-long hanging structure that hangs from a branch. The clutch is 3 pale green or gray eggs incubated by the female. Feeds mainly on large insects, nectar and fruit. Its song is melodious. Its call sounds like a cat whine.

El Turpial Amarillo mide entre 20 – 21 cm de longitud. Los machos con un peso promedio de 40 g y las hembras de 38 g. Común y conspicuo en tierras bajas donde vive en bosques secundarios y jardines. Se encuentra hasta los 3000 metros de altura. Tiene espalda amarilla y una pequeña máscara y gular de color negro. Presenta una barra alar blanca estrecha pero nítida y las márgenes de las rémiges internas blancas. La hembra es más opaca que el macho. Los juveniles con plumaje más opaco y verdoso y con barra alar blanca. Su alimento consiste generalmente de insectos, arañas y néctar. Construyen nidos en forma de bolsa alargada que cuelgan de las ramas de árboles los cuales son tejidos con fibras vegetales. La postura es de 2 a 3 huevos que exhiben una coloración blanco azulosa con manchas púrpura oscuras. Generalmente se encuentran en grupos de 2 o 3. De canto melodioso que a veces asemeja el sonido apagado del gato.
