Song

Tocuyo Sparrow

Appearance: The Tocuyo Sparrow is a small, ground-loving sparrow, about 13 cm long. It has a brownish back, pale underparts, a grayish face, and a distinctive dark head pattern with blackish stripes around the crown and face. Its bill is fairly strong, useful for eating seeds and small insects.
Habitat: It lives mainly in dry tropical forest, thorn scrub, dry shrubland, and semi-open arid woodland. It prefers low, tangled vegetation where it can remain hidden while feeding near the ground.
Behavior: This species is usually seen low in dense bushes or on the ground, often moving quietly through leaf litter and scrub. It is probably mostly resident, meaning it does not make long migrations. Its diet likely includes seeds, small fruits, and insects, similar to related sparrows.
Breeding: Detailed breeding information is limited. Like many New World sparrows, it probably builds a well-hidden cup-shaped nest in low vegetation or shrubs. Breeding is likely timed with local rainy periods, when insects and plant food are more available.
Conservation Status: The Tocuyo Sparrow is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN/BirdLife International,
