Bronze-winged Parrot

Appearance: The Bronze-winged Parrot is medium-sized, with a green body. It is named for its bronze sheen on the wings, which can appear iridescent in certain lights. The head and neck are a bluish-purple color, which contrasts with the green body. The tail feathers are green with a hint of blue and red at the base. They measure about 28 cm in length.
Habitat: This species is found in the Andean regions of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. They inhabit subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, usually at elevations between 500 to 2,800 meters. While they prefer dense forest areas, they can also be found in secondary forests and sometimes in agricultural areas.
Behavior: Bronze-winged Parrots are oftenseen in pairs or small groups. They are social birds and may form larger flocks, especially outside the breeding season. Their diet mainly consists of fruits, seeds, and nuts. They are known to forage in the canopy of the forest.
Breeding: These parrots typically nest in tree cavities. They do not create their own nests but rather use natural cavities or those made by other animals. The breeding season can vary depending on the region but generally occurs during the wet season when food is more abundant. Females usually lay about 3 to 4 eggs per clutch. The female incubates the eggs for about 26 days, while the male provides food.
Conservation Status: The Bronze-winged Parrot is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
