Flame-rumped Tanager

Appearance: The Flame-rumped Tanager has a striking appearance with a bright red-orange rump, black head, and wings, and a yellow belly. The male and female have similar plumage, but the female is slightly duller in color.
Habitat: This species is found in humid forests, forest edges, and secondary growth areas in the lowlands and foothills of Colombia.
Behavior: Flame-rumped Tanagers are known for their energetic and social behavior. They are often seen in small groups or pairs foraging for insects and fruit in the canopy of trees.
Breeding: During the breeding season, males perform elaborate courtship displays to attract females. They build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs and lay 2-3 eggs. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and feeding the chicks.
Conservation status: The Flame-rumped Tanager is considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.

Distribution

The Flame-rumped Tanager is found in the western and central regions of Colombia, including the departments of Antioquia, Risaralda, Caldas, Quindio, Valle del Cauca, Nariño, and Cauca. They are also found in the northern region of the country, particularly in the departments of Córdoba y Santander. 
The Flame-rumped Tanager prefers humid montane forests and can be seen at elevations ranging from 1400 to 2200 meters above sea level.

Vocalization


The Flame-rumped Tanager's vocalization is a series of high-pitched, melodious whistles and trills. The song is often described as sweet and musical, with a clear, flute-like quality. The call is a sharp, metallic "tink" or "chink" sound.
